As technology continues to evolve, the need for skilled professionals in the digital space is more pressing than ever. Sisters of Code goal is to empower young women in Cambodia to pursue careers in tech, providing them with the tools and confidence to grow their interest and skills in coding, online security and creating websites. We are glad that more and more students are joining the program and 2024 Sisters of Code Ambassadors are amazing examples of the transformative power of this program. Meet eight inspiring young women who share their experiences and the impact our program has had on their lives.
1. Chiv Mengchou
Chiv Mengchou, a second-year Data Science student at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, describes her journey with Sisters of Code as a "game-changer." She shared: "This course has been a game-changer for me, providing an incredible opportunity to develop my programming skills and explore the world of technology. I would highly recommend the Sisters of Code course to any girl interested in pursuing a career in tech. It has been a transformative experience that has equipped me with the skills and confidence to take the next step."
2. Pich Puth Srey Neath
Pich Puth Srey Neath, a fourth-year Computer Science student at the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT), believes the program is perfect for girls unsure of where to start in the tech field, providing them with both the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed. She comments: "After completing the ambassador program provided by Sister of Code, I gained more insightful knowledge in both coding and real-life experience from mentors. It helped me fill the gap and improve my skills. Additionally, I had the opportunity to meet young and enthusiastic girls from various backgrounds, which gave me a different perspective and built my confidence. Overall, if you are a young girl who doesn't know where to start in this rapidly developing tech field, the Sister of Code program is the best choice for you."
3. Phan Phatsa
For Phan Phatsa, a second-year student at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, joining the Sisters of Code Ambassadors program was a pivotal moment. She shares: "I joined the Sister Of Code Ambassador because I want to improve my ability for both hard and soft skills. In this program I learned a lot like basic Cyber security, Code.org, Scratch, basic Web development, Machine Learning, and also soft skills like leadership skills development, presentation skill, Project planning, and management. Thank you so much Sister Of Code for giving me this opportunity. And today, I'm a part of Sisters of Code, a group of people that support, and help girls and women to become active creators in the digital economy and discover their full potential."
4. Heng Vattey
At just 19 years old, Heng Vattey has already found her passion in coding through the Sisters of Code program. She comments: " I have recently joined Sister of Code to study coding, and this experience has been both inspiring and transformative. As I discover the world of programming, I am motivated to create such coding clubs for other students, just like Sister of Code has done for me. My goal is to create a supportive and educational environment where young girl learners can explore technology and develop their skills, empowering them to become the next generation of coders."
5. Norn Dany
Norn Dany, a grade 12 student from Kien Sangkae High School in Siem Reap, has found a new passion as a Sisters of Code Ambassador and club leader. Danny has been leading the clubs last year as well and she is sharing: "I'm so excited to join Sisters of Code as an Ambassador and club leader. From joining Sisters of Code, I can see myself improving a lot both hard skills and soft skills. As a club leader I am so happy to see many girls interested in coding and technology, and I would encourage other girls to join Sisters of Code Programs because you can explore something new and coding skills." We are also great to know that Dany's mother has been very supportive to her passion!
6. Mom Rotha
Mom Rotha, a second-year Computer Science student at The University of Cambodia, expressed her excitement about participating in the Sisters of Code Ambassador program. "I was very happy to be able to attend the Sister of code ambassador, and I was even happier when Sister of Code allowed me to open a teaching club. I am very interested in opening this teaching club, because I want to share my experience with everyone and also want to encourage women to learn about technology because technology can not only be learned by men, women can also learn this skill."
7. Chin Somavatey
Chin Somavatey, an 18-year-old first-year TESOL student at the National University of Battambang, has seen remarkable growth through her two years as a Sisters of Code club leader. Vatey is saying: "After joining the Sisters of Code Ambassadors program and also having 2 years of experience as a club leader, I've really seen myself improve and communicate better. Through these experiences, I've gained more teaching skills and knowledge, and I've had the opportunity to meet and connect with people from different places in Battambang. Now, I can inspire more girls in my province to join the Sisters of Code program. I'm really thankful to be a part of the Sisters of Code."
8. Yun Sokly
Yun Sokly, a third-year Computer Science student at Pannasastra University, feels honored to be part of the Sisters of Code Ambassadors program. "I am excited and honored to be part of the Sisters of Code Ambassadors program, where I learned basic coding, how to create websites and soft skills. Thank you to Sisters of Code for this opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of girls in Cambodia in the field of technology."
Growing Community Together
The experiences of these eight Sisters of Code Ambassadors highlight the profound impact that programs like this can have on young women in Cambodia. By providing the skills, confidence, and community support needed to thrive in the tech industry, Sisters of Code is helping to shape the future of technology in the region. These ambassadors are not just students; they are the future leaders and innovators who will continue to inspire and empower the next generation of girls in tech. Now we are glad to open 12 clubs in Cambodia in 2024 and enrol young female students to discover creativity, coding and passion for tech together!
