After 18 weeks of learning with the Sisters of Code program, 45 students have successfully graduated on June 26!
While all the lessons were delivered online to ensure health and safety requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the students were invited in small groups to share the joy of accomplishment and meet their peers, and celebrate this outstanding event together with a cake and presents.
In February 2021, after a review of 182 total applications, 48 students were selected for the 2021 cohort. The selection process involved an initial interview with applicants to understand their general English language proficiency, basic PC skills, and most importantly commitment and motivation to participate in the program.
For 18 weeks students have been learning the basics of visual coding with Code.org, game development with Scratch and web development with WIX, as well as programming languages HTML and CSS. For all the students those were new skills to learn. Some students admitted that sometimes it was difficult to understand, but thanks to the support from the teachers and peers, as well as by practicing they all could succeed. All the lessons were delivered weekly by Google Meet calls and in groups chats in Telegram.
We are especially proud that one of the Sisters of Code groups was established with New Generation Sisowath School, which is a long-term partner for Sisters of Code, and appreciates this opportunity to deliver the Sisters of Code program as an extra-curriculum activity for the high school female students.
To allow families and friends to join the graduation too, Sisters of Code made live broadcasting on the Facebook page for the virtual graduation.
We are proud to receive a lot of positive feedback and comments from Sisters of Code graduates, as well as their high level of satisfaction with the program. 100% of Sisters of Code graduates would recommend other girls to attend the Sisters of Code program.

The admitted students could attend the program free of charge, thanks to the support from IT Academy STEP Cambodia, Women International Group Cambodia, and a grant, received from SOLVE MIT, which acknowledged the Sisters of Code program as one of the best in the category Learning for Women and Girls in 2020.
