Celebrating the Graduation of Sisters of Code Ambassadors Program in 2024

After 15 weeks of intense training in computer science and leadership, Sisters of Code proudly hosted the Graduation Ceremony for our Sisters of Code Ambassadors on Sunday, July 21st, 2024, at IT Academy STEP Institute in Cambodia. Our Sisters of Code is the first female coding club aims to encourage girls to learn coding in a safe and supportive environment established by IT Academy STEP Institute in Cambodia and funded by Liechtenstein Development Service (LED)

A Proud Milestone

It was heartwarming to see around 40 attendees join us in celebrating this significant milestone. We are delighted to announce that 19 students have successfully completed the program, receiving certificates from Sisters of Code. This achievement marks the beginning of their journey towards a future in technology, filled with confidence and capability.

Insights from Our Trainers

Ms. Ouern Vapy, one of our computer science trainers, expressed her appreciation for the ambassadors' engagement during both online and offline classes. She is thrilled to see many women enjoy learning coding and encourages all ambassadors to continue pursuing their passion.

Another leadership trainer Ms. Phallideth shared her positive feedback, expressing happiness to see her students passionate about running their own clubs and sharing their skills and knowledge with juniors interested in coding and leadership.

Voices of Our Provincial Club Leaders

During the event, we invited our Sisters of Code club leaders from 2022 to share their journeys with the program and their experiences in running their own clubs. Chin Somavatey, the Club Leader from Battambang Province, shared her enthusiasm about her participation in Sisters of Code. She expressed happiness in being able to pass on her learnings to younger students at her school and conveyed her appreciation for being part of the community.

Similarly, Norn Dany, the Club Leader from Siem Reap, shared her story of becoming a club leader. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share her knowledge with other students and highlighted the support she receives from her family, which allows her to lead online and teach Sisters of Code lessons to others. Also, she encouraged new ambassadors to take on leadership roles in their own clubs, emphasizing the excitement and rewards they will encounter while sharing sessions with younger students.

Empowering Students with Deloitte Cambodia

On the same day, our partner Deloitte Cambodia handed over certificates of participation to our ambassadors. These certificates highlighted their achievement after completing a 2-day Work Readiness Program, which covered essential career skills such as job searching, CV and cover letter writing, and interview mastery. The lesson was beneficial for the students' future careers and scholarships, and they expressed hope for more opportunities like this. We remain dedicated to collaborating with Deloitte to create empowering opportunities for students.

Celebrating Sisters of Code and Future Plans

We are thrilled to announce that 12 ambassadors are passionate about running their own Sisters of Code Clubs. We plan to open 13 clubs, which means we will educate 195 Cambodian female students this year. We are excited and cannot wait to see these students share their knowledge with younger generations. We believe they will enjoy their clubs, which will be opening soon.

Last but not least, Thank you for the generous support of our donor, Liechtenstein Development Service (LED). With your support, Sisters of Code is making great strides in providing accessible, high-quality technology education for girls in Cambodia. Join us in celebrating this wonderful achievement and looking forward to a bright future for women in technology.
